To install picture frame moldings in your house, you need a simple math to determine the picture frame molding size and numbers. First, you should measure the length and height of the wall where picter frame moldings be installed. The height is between the bottom of the chair rail and top of base molding. Then, you decide the picture frame molding wieth and height as well as the gap between the molding.
For example, let's say you want 3.5" gaps on a twelve foot long and two foot high wall: 12*12=144 inch long and 12*2=24 inch high. The width and height of the rectangular picture frame moldings can be calculated with 3.5" gap.
144-3.5=140.5" Since picture frame moldings have two gaps on the left and right, one extra gap on the far right should be deducted.
140.5/5-3.5=24.6" If you want five moldings on 12 feet long wall, you need five 24.6" wide picture frame moldings.
24-3.5*2=17" You get the height of picture frame moldings of 17" by deducting two 3.5" gaps on top and bottom.
